I do want to apologize, readers, for the abruptness with which I have departed the blog. Let it be known, however, that like Arthur of old, I shall return when needed most - most likely late August. While not at school, my access to the interwebs is rather limited, hence my absence. I do hope to recruit someone by next year to help keep things running, however.

That all aside, thank you for sticking around, folks. I looks forward to our reunion.

Eurobricks is hosting an exciting TLC-sponsored contest, challenging you to enter into three available categories. Your quest this time around is to extend the LEGO Prince of Persia line-up, create a 'Persian Version' of an existing set, or build a market stall. WW/Steampunk Contest

Well, folks, The Lego Contest Network is at it again with their latest challenge and, as last time, BrickArms weapons and prototypes are on the line (yahoo?). Your task this time around is to create vehicle and minifigure in an either Steampunk of World War (I or II)-themed creation. Contestants are allowed to enter two creations, allowing one per category or two in one. Entries are due by May 5th.

On a side note, [PhiMa]'s entry is definitely worth checking out.

LEGO Military Group Annual Build Contest #003

Bad puns aside, the LEGO Military Flickr group is announcing their third annual contest, featuring categories aplenty for you to choose from. Specifically, there are five categories of entries with two subsections apiece. Prizes will not be announced 'til later in the contest, but if last year's prizes are any indication, not to mention sponsors including BrickArms, Steve Witt/TLG, and Brickmania, they ought to be good. Entries are due by May 31st, but submissions are not allowed until mid-April.

Put Your Brick Where Your Mouth Is!

In an attempt to discern whether LEGO fans have what it takes to criticize the professionals, Happy Weasel has announced a contest said to be judged by the illustrious Mark Stafford, a professional LEGO designer! The proof is in the pudding, as the aphorism goes, and in this case the pudding is a space MOC which must fall at a price point of $5, $10, $20, $50, or $100, using the tried and true 10¢-per-part rule. There are some further specifications, so make sure you check out the original post. Next step? Get out there and prove yourself! Just make sure your set is released by June 1st.

LEGO Theme Bending

GeekyTom has announced a new contest and set up a Flickr group to boot. The title should give you a pretty good idea of what's being asked of you here: Take an official set and give it a twist, fitting it into another genre altogether. The prizes are nothing to sneeze at either, with a V-19 Torrent going to the first-place winner, a Sports Car going to second, and a Le Mans Racer for the third. Entries are due by March 31st, so get bending!

With a wealthy backstory to direct your creativity, you are asked to build a scene of resistance featuring at least a squad and a vignette. Prizes have not been specified beyond being provided by BrickArms (a common prize these days, apparently). Entries are due by April 1st.

We've got two Star Wars contests to report for you, folks, on FBTB and ToysNBricks.

Create Your Own Star Wars Scene

While the name may be a mouthful, the premise of this contest is simple: build a scene from one of the six Star Wars movies. The catch is that you must build it as if was a LEGO set priced between $24.99 and $29.99. Prizes include a Snowtrooper Battle Pack or a set of equivalent value and a Boba Fett minifigure. Make sure to read Toys N Bricks' general contest rules and get your entry in by March 31st! Thanks to Thunder-Blade for the reminder!

The ASS Model Contest

The name of this contest is certainly, dare I say it, cheeky, and it stands for Alternate Separatist Shuttle. The good folks at FBTB are asking you to take the pieces of 8036 Separatist Shuttle and build something new and wonderful. If it's new and wonderful enough you'll be leaving this contest with a new-in-box 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter. Entries are also due by March 31st.

28th Build Challenge...The Animal Kingdom

Lino M., recently featured in AFOL: A Blocumentary, has posted the latest Build Challenge for the Flickr group LUGNuts. Participants are called to build a car, as always, but with a twist: these cars must be animal-inspired or related. This is a challenge, rather than a contest, so there are no prizes, but I'm posting it because I like the uniqueness of the concept. Entries are due by the first of March, so get building, folks!

The Time Twisters Contest

The Time Twisters Contest, hosted by AlienCat, is running at www.classic-castle.com!

Your task is to take an official LEGO set and transform it into a legitimate Castle creation. Entries have already proved to be creative and humorous, but there's almost two weeks left 'til the February 28th deadline.

BiM 2010: Avant-Garde

Bricks in Motion, the leading online LEGO stop-motion community, hosts an annual filmmaking contest which has produced impressive results. This year the theme is Avant-Garde.

Entrants to BiM's latest challenge are asked to break free from the mold of traditional brickfilming and come up with something new. This theme is rather open-ended and the prizes are impressive, so let your creativity go wild! Just make sure you do so by July 25th.

Well, it's been over a week since my last post, so I thought I'd let you all know that the results are in from the FBTB Episode III UCS Contest.

In first place was Pepa Quin, with his ARC-170 fighter.

Coming in second was Olog, with his V-Wing (my personal favorite).

Following in third was wintermoog and his Droid Trifighter.

And, tying for fourth place were badgerboy and Pro/E Jedi, with the UCS General Grievous' Stafighter and P-38 Starfighter, respectively.

1. Model/Scene of the Month
Using LDraw, create a model or a scene. Fairly basic, but it's turned up some interesting results. There's no prize for this one except for the illustrious glory that will doubtlessly ensue.

2. Part of the Month
If you create a new part in LDraw, you can enter it into this contest. Fairly standard, this contest follows the model of the the former.

1. Best Movie Scene Vignette
Can you build a good-looking vignette from a movie? If so you'll want to check this contest out. Details right now are sketchy, but the prize "may include some decals." There is no end date as of yet.

2. Song Vig Contest
Like the first, the objective for this contest is to build a vignette, however this one must focus on lyrics from a son. (Though nothing explicit) Again, details are vague, so check it out with the link.

Brickfilm Contests

There are a few contests going on at Brickfilms.com right now:

1. Masterpieces of Brickfilming
Not for the faint of heart, the MoB contest is looking to produce
. . . well, masterpieces. The deadline is a ways away, specifically December 30th, 2007. The host of the contest is awarding $50 cash prizes to the winners in each category. There are plenty of rules and stipulations, so if you're interested, I'd advise you to
check out the link.

2. E.A.S.T.E.R.
A much different contest, the "Enjoy A Short Transient Event Right-away" contest wants people to make a short, 15-seconds or less, film that provides a summing up of Easter. As of now, the prize has not yet been announced, but it "will be modest." Deadline is April 10th, 2007.

3. The Nadine and Charlie 2007 Music Video Competition Nadine and Charlie, a music group wants brickfilmers to make a music video with one of their songs. They are offering "200 British Pounds for first place,50 British Pounds for a runner up, and 50 British Pounds for an other runner up." The deadline is April 30th, 2007.

4. The TTC Contest
A fairly open-ended contest designed to promote the use of the Theora video codec. The prizes, however, are very impressive.

1. A final draft script of the film "The Empire Strikes Back" autographed by George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Frank Oz, Kenny Baker, Billy Dee Williams, Pete Mayhew, Dave Prowse, and George Hull.

2. A revised, first draft script of the film "Gladiator" autographed by Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Connie Nielson."

Deadline is May 5th, 2007.
